As one of the largest and most sparsely populated countries in the world, Australia has a unique history of its own. Much of its population is found in several coastal areas, centered in large cities. It has vast deserts of exuberant attraction.

Inclusive in nature, the multiracial Australian society has not always been known for its tolerant attitude. The majority of the population is made of people from Caucasian origins but those of Asian origins have also seen a recent increase. Although the immigration is increasing, the birth rate is low at 12.26 per 1000 births in 2005. The population is ageing and that is a major concern if the workforce has to be maintained.

Although over 200 languages are spoken in the country, English is the main and official language and Christianity is the predominant faith among many other religions.
